Day 16: Information consumerism
“We have become consumeristic in terms of goods, money and most importantly information.”
Twitter trained us to believe we must know everything instantly. Most news can wait an hour, or a day.
There is an honest trade-off. In the Facebook experiment, quitters consumed 8 fewer minutes of news a day and scored lower on a news quiz (−0.19 SD), but were also less polarised. The answer isn't ignorance. It's one deliberate, slower news source instead of a constant stream.
